From Friday, September 11, through Sunday, September 13, the Marietta Marketplace became a temporary fixture in the town’s historic center, the Armory Square, during the Sternwheel festival.
Around twenty booths and tents covered the square as shoppers mixed and mingled. This year’s festival weekend was on the rainy side, but Marietta’s finest artisans didn’t let the weather get in the way of selling their wares.
Cristie Thomas, a Parkersburg local, was excited to be a featured vendor this weekend. The tables at her booth, The Crafted Baby, were filled to the brim with what she described as “modern, adorable and affordable baby goods.”
Thomas, who is also a staff member at Marietta College, enjoys sharing her passion with the community. The Crafted Baby is a regular at the Marietta Marketplace.
“I’ve participated in every one this summer so far. The Marketplace is always right here on the Armory lawn. It happens once a month, usually on a Saturday from about 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.”
Brooke Stanley, a junior psychology major at Marietta College and another local of Parkersburg, W.Va, filled The Marcolian in on what the Marketplace is all about.
“All kinds of local artists and crafters set up booths, it’s really cool,” Stanley said.
So if you didn’t have the chance to stop by last weekend there’s no need to fear, though the next time the “pop-up flea of the MOV” returns to the Armory has not yet been announced. Visit their website at http://mariettamarketplace.com/ for future updates.
