The esports program at Marietta College has had an excellent season so far. Rocky starts haven’t put the players down as we have seen multiple teams claw their way back to a positive record. All the different teams in the program are fighting for playoff seeds, and with only a few games left in the regular season they must focus to lock in their playoff potential. In particular, two teams have taken center stage so far this season, the Valorant team, and the Rainbow: 6 Siege team.
The Valorant team has had an excellent season thus far achieving a 5-1 record. Their season started with a clutch victory against Wayne State University. After their first victory, the Valorant team then dominated the rest of their games up till their most recent match against Nazareth University. The match went the distance going to all three maps. The first map was Bind and was taken by Nazareth. Marietta College came out swinging on the next map and took Sunset confidently. The last map was Split and went into overtime. The Pios had a crushing defeat with the map going 28 rounds with Marietta losing in overtime.
The Rainbow: 6 Siege team has been strong this season as well, with a 2-2 record so far. Out of the entire esports program, the Siege team faces the toughest battles facing much larger programs. One of their notable matches was a dominant 2-0 win against West Virginia University Tech. The team played to their strengths and came out on top. Because of their performance during this season and past seasons, Kentucky University has invited them back to the LAN event they host each year. This is a big deal for the program, as it is the only in person event that they currently participate in as a program.
Marietta College Esports has only a few games left in their season, and each team is fighting for a playoff spot. Tune in at twitch.tv/mariettaesports to catch the action.
