The Marietta College Esports season is set to start this week. This semester they will be competing in five titles, including Valorant, Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, Overwatch, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The Fortnite team will be competing in the ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) league, while the rest of the teams look to play in the NECC (National Esports Collegiate Conference). With this change from previously competing in the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) and Great Lakes Esports Conference (GLEC), we’ll also be seeing some schedule changes.
Valorant kicks off the season on Monday, September 23rd, at 8:30p.m. against Wayne State JV from Nebraska. Tuesday we’ll get to see the Super Smash Bros team face-off against the Seton Hill Griffins, likely between 6:00p.m to 8:00p.m. On Wednesday, an esports double-header will occur as Rainbow Six Siege will follow up Smash Bros. The last scheduled matches of the week are Fortnite on Thursday at 8:00p.m, where they’ll play five duo build games and Overwatch on Friday with a time and opponent not yet determined. This schedule will repeat with some varying start times for the rest of the semester.
The new conferences also brought placement matches which were played last week. These placement matches were played to determine preseason rankings and divisions. So esports fans, get ready for the nail-biting action this season! All games will be broadcasted live at https://www.twitch.tv/mariettaesports by a mix of returning and new broadcasters, who are all excited to present the new rosters.
