Marietta, Ohio finds itself to be the new home for students every fall. After moving in, it is important for students to get involved with their community to help ease the transition into their new environment. Marietta College’s annual Involvement Fair is the perfect way for students to make connections with the community and engage with the various clubs and activities that the campus offers.
The Involvement Fair takes place on Friday August 30th from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. The event is held on the Marietta College Mall where tables are set up by campus organizations and community partners to showcase what their organization can provide to students looking to make an impact in their community. Campus organizations include work study jobs, clubs, Greek organizations, the Student Government Association and so much more. In total, Marietta College offers more than 80 clubs and 22 varsity sports. While community partners include companies looking for internships and or full/part time jobs as well as non-profit organizations looking for volunteers to help with their work they do for the community.
Marietta College is one of the highest rated schools for volunteer work as a majority of campus sports clubs give back to the community as well as the nationally recognized McDonough Leadership Program. As part of the leadership program students must contribute 50 hours of community service to receive their degree. Hence, these students are eager to work with community partners and many continue to work with these partners even after their required time is complete. These connections help improve resumes, build relationships with your new home, and are all for a good cause for the surrounding area.
Another added perk of attending the Involvement Fair are the games and prizes at the tables. These games range from prize wheels, corn hole, and a rowing competition! Many tables will hand out free food, merchandise, and other knickknacks such as pens and keychains to all students. That’s why it’s important to attend every table to see what all you can collect.
Overall, the Involvement Fair is a great opportunity for students to learn about the organizations around them and get a better idea of what they want to do during their time in Marietta. Although, students have time to decide, as many organizations hold events on campus after the Involvement Fair to garner student interest and boost recruitment. This includes the Greek Life rush weeks which occur in September. Furthermore, some organizations who fail to register for the fair still advertise their group online and hold events in town and on campus. So, if you miss the Involvement Fair do not worry as there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
