From outdoor ghost walks to spooky movie nights, plenty of fun and scary events happened on and off campus this past Halloween. Although Halloween is over for the year, you can still get an idea of the best events that happened in and surrounding Marietta College.
Of course, no Halloween is complete without trick-or-treating, which took place on Saturday the 28th for the city of Marietta. There were also plenty of trunk-or-treat events that weekend and going into Halloween as nearby Parkersburg had a trunk-or-treat event on Friday the 27th.
Also, on the 28th, the 36th annual Halloween “At the Park” event at the Maritta fairgrounds brought food, games, and scares to everyone who attended! This event is open to everyone, and features activities for kids and adults alike.
Furthermore, Marietta also hosted the traditional screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. This year the show was held in the People’s Bank Theatre on October 30th. For the full month of October, Hidden Marietta held ghost trek walking tours from 7p.m. to 8p.m. every Saturday and tours of the haunted Anchorage Mansion at 6p.m.
On campus, the monthly planetarium show on the 26th was alien-themed and the Dance department held a spooky dance class the 28th. Furthermore, there were three haunted houses on campus. One was organized by the Theatre department on the 28th. On the same night, another was hosted by the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity in the Pioneer House. A final haunted house was made by the Office of Community Living at the Dorothy Webster Residence Hall on the 31st.
The Gilman Dining Hall displayed full Halloween theming on the 31st for lunch, with decorations, staff in costumes, and creatively named lunch menu items such as “bat wings”, and “creepy crawly pasta salad”. There was also a pumpkin carving competition where students could vote for their favorites.
Halloween next year is sure to offer more spectacularly spooky events, decorations, and activities in and surrounding Marietta!
