Resident Evil 2 Remake came out fairly recently but is a revamped version of the title that terrified audiences on the original PlayStation in 1998. This new and improved retelling of the horror franchises boasts terrors that lurk behind every corner, from zombies to freaky mutations all created in the name of terror. Players will take the role of Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield as you dive into the isolating Raccoon City Police Department to figure out what exactly is going on. You will need to solve puzzles, shoot zombies, and be hunted by creatures that will provide enough anxiety to make you forget about that physics mid-term.
Texas Chain Saw Massacre the Game graced consoles and PC’s this year with a revived asymmetrical horror multiplayer game that would allow players to step into the infamous Leather-Face’s boots with two cohorts taking up the roles of other cannibalistic hillbilly serial murderers. You can also take the role of young adult trying to escape the clutches of the sadistic family trying to turn you into barbecue. Functioning like a terrifying game of hide-and-seek you might find some scares in the multiplayer encounters.
Outlast Collection is the terrifying group of the first and second game. You can pick these up super cheap on most platforms, and the scares are something that will haunt you. Players will take the wimpy first-person role of protagonist, and be forced to navigate dangerous grotesque asylums, farmlands strewn with limbs, and run for your life from horrifying threats. I don’t want to spoil too much about this one, just ensure you have the lights on and have decent audio. Be sure to warn your dorm neighbors if they hear you screaming!
Dead Space Remake came out earlier this year and has been one of my all-time favorite games since the original debuted in 2008. Inspired by the likes of modern Resident Evil, players will fill the role of a ship engineer in a sci-fi world, investigating a drifting silent mining ship. Nothing can prepare you for the horrors that lurk aboard and if the intro to the game doesn’t shock you to the bones, you should probably visit the school psychologist. Be ready to dismember and stomp any threats you come across as you repair the USG Ishimura.
Visage is quite possibly the most terrifying game I have ever played. This recommendation is only for the bravest of the brave, and I hope you have brown pants to cover any accidents along the way. Inspired by PT from Hideo Kojima, you will have to investigate a house to find out what kind of activity has been happening there. Without too many spoilers this title will drive your anxiety through the roof and have you on the edge of your seat, as you piece together the chilling tale of the game with VHS tapes.
