On February 5, 2023, Marietta College Athletics celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The day started off with registration where the participants received a Title IX picture, Pioneer head paper cutout, wrist band, inflatable bat, and a white rally towel that had the logo of Ohio represented which was all free to them. The girls in attendance would then be welcomed by a variety of Marietta College athletes and coaches. The sports that were in attendance included volleyball, basketball, rowing, lacrosse, dance/cheer, tennis, golf, and softball. After learning a variety of different sports, the day ended with more laughs, smiles, and joy as the young girls got to receive autographs from Marietta College women athletes.

The turnout for the event was spectacular for it being the first time holding the event. Coach Castle, the women’s softball coach said she was really pleased with how the day turned out, and there were more girls at the event than they anticipated. Everyone was so happy to be at the event, and it is events just like the one that Marietta College had take place that girls are able to find sport that they could fall in love with as they grow up. Coach Castle said, “They were able to learn new sports…so many of them said their favorite new sports were rowing and lacrosse. What other opportunity would they get to do those sports if were not holding this for them.” The opportunity that Marietta College hosted allowed young girls in the community to meet new people, learn new sports, and share experience with others that overall allowed for the girls in attendance to have smiles and fun with Marietta College women athletes while finding new passions inside the sports world.
