This past Saturday, the Marietta College track and field team traveled up to Muskingum University to compete in their biggest meet of the season up to this point. This meeting featured twelve teams, and a good mixture of Division II and III athletes.
The biggest contributors for the Pioneers were the Priest boys, who scored majority of the points for the men’s side. Beau Priest (Fr.) placed 5th in the Shot put on his final throw with a mark of 13.91 meters (45’7.75’’). Jake Priest (Jr.) took home the victory in the weight throw with his last attempt, where he reached a mark of 16.69 meters (54’9.25’’). To wrap up the field events on the men’s side, Luke Watt placed 7th in the pole vault (3.95m) and Addison Painter (Sr.) placed 6th in the high jump (1.75m) as well as 6th in the long jump (6.44m).
In the running events, Lane Wilson (Sr.) led the way for the men, taking 4th in the mile (4:35.56) and 5th in the 800m (2:01.03). There were also two placers in the 400m, Elijah Kuklica (Fr.) placed 5th (53.06) and Evan Kieffer (Jr.) placed 8th (54.65).
Emma Fehrman (So.) led the way for the women placing in two events and winning one of them. She took first in the triple jump (10.65m) and 6th in the 200m (27.60). Emily Thompson placed 2nd in the pole vault (3.57m). Brooke Huffman took 4th in the weight throw with a toss of 13.35m.
In addition, the women’s team put together a distance medley that consisted of Isabelle Poling (So.), Michaela Hieronymus (Fr.), Mackenzie Moran (So.), and Kaitlyn Gough (So.). They placed second with a time of 14:27.28.
Next Saturday, the Pioneers will take a trip north to Alliance, Ohio where they will compete in the Jim Wuske Invitational hosted by the University of Mount Union. Also, Addison Painter will travel to Ashland University to compete in the Ashland LightGiver Invitational Multi, where he will compete in the men’s heptathlon.
