Marietta College Vice President, Richard Danford, sent out important updates regarding move-out for students that are not currently residing on campus and still need to complete the move-out process. Currently, Governor DeWine has not given further direction regarding travel in the state of Ohio. The college is still on hold, as they are awaiting these further instructions.
Whenever the governor allows more travel, the college has planned for a “gradual, carefully move-out process that will allow only a small number of students at a time, with a very limited number of helpers to be present in any residence hall on any particular floor or wing on any given day” according to Dr. Danford. There will be a sign-up sheet for each individual’s move-out date through SignUpGenius. Whenever the green light is given, that link and further information will be provided to the college community.
For students that are not able to return to the college to complete their move out, they will have the option to work with the Office of Community Living and the Marietta College Police Department to get a selected mover on the date they arrange. More information on local moving and storage options and information on those options will be provided soon.
In regards to the senior class, the Student Government Association will still be ordering senior shirts as planned. The main difference is that these shirts will now be available for pick-up at the in-person graduation ceremony or homecoming rather than during senior week. If seniors are unable to return for those events when they come around, the association will do their best to ship the shirts out individually.
As for the commencement plan, newly elected Student Government Association president, Katie Kitchen, has been attending commencement meetings throughout the semester, and states that “the plan is still to continue with the virtual ceremony during the originally scheduled time and to provide an in-person ceremony at a later date.” There will be a virtual slideshow, in which seniors had submitted a headshot for. Each individual’s slide will contain their degrees and honors.
The seniors should, if they have not already, receive their cap and gown through the mail prior to this virtual ceremony. The in-person ceremony was initially thought to be during Homecoming, but due to conflicting availabilities, it will be chosen through a combination of senior input, college capacity, and state guidelines and regulations.
