As students and faculty returned to campus to start the new semester, the Marietta College men’s basketball team was still practicing and traveling for games like they never left.

“This year being my last season playing basketball for Marietta is honestly heartbreaking, because these are my brothers and I will miss them and everything about this team so much. At the same time, I just want to make the most out of it and enjoy every moment I have on and off the court,” said senior player, Michael Hall.

The pioneers traveled to Lexington, KY, for the Transylvania Don Lane Classic tournament. They played at Transylvania University on December 17, winning by a score of 107-61. Their second game against Albion College on December 18 resulted in another win, 96-70.

A few days after Christmas the boys played in the Great Lakes Invitational tournament in Wooster, OH. On December 28, the pioneers finished with a score of 80-88 against Salisbury University. The boys came struck back with a victory score of 92-86 the following day against York College of Pennsylvania.

Their first game of the new year was at Wilmington College on January 4, resulting in a win by a score of 75-64. The first home game of spring semester on January 8 finished with a score of 95-73 against Muskingum University, giving the pioneers another win to take home. On January 11, they hosted another victorious game against Heidelberg University that resulted in a score of 96-75.

The boys’ most recent victory came from their game on January 15 at Capital University, with a score of 75-47. “One of my favorite moments from one of the games this season was being able to play and be on the court while J (Jason Ellis) scored 51 points,” said Hall.

The pioneers will play away on January 18 at 5:00 pm, against Ohio Northern University. “What I’m looking forward to most for the remainder of this season is to continue to grow, get better every day, and push to win our sixth OAC title in a row as well as making a push into the NCAA tournament,” said Hall.
