Doo Dah Day is an annual event that takes place on the campus Marietta College. It is typically seen as a time for students to unwind after a long semester of work.
The occasion is full of activities and entertainment. Each year, a musical artist or group performs on a stage that will be set up in the Harrison Hall parking lot. In addition to the musical number, inflatable obstacle courses are set up for students and community member to compete in.
The event is free and open to the public.
Liz Nedved, a junior, is excited for this years occasion. “Doo Dah Day is one of those days similar to homecoming. The build up for it makes everyone excited,” said Nedved.
The food at the event will be catered by Parkhurst dining. In addition to the catered food, a beer garden will be set up for the students who are of age. The beer is to be provided by local businesses.
The staple of Doo Dah Day is of course, hot air balloon rides. This has been a tradition of Doo Dah Day since its inception. Students may sign up to get the aerial view of campus from a hot air balloon that will lift off of the Harrison lawn.
The story of Doo Dah Day traces back to 1974, it was then that Glen Mello thought up the idea for the Spring celebration. The name “Doo Dah Day” was taken from the nickname of his roommate, Dave “Doo Dah” Gibson.
This year, Doo Dah Day will be held on April 12 on the Harrison lawn and parking lot. Events for the day will begin at approximately five p.m.
