This week for the second installment of the Parkhurst Staff Spotlight I had the pleasure of speaking with Becky Foster about why she has stayed at Marietta College for 15 years.

Becky states that she has been working at Marietta since her junior year of high school and stayed because of the people.

“The reason I stayed so long is because the staff and students make you feel welcome. It’s like being in a big family that you don’t want to be away from!” Foster says.

For many students Becky isn’t just another face in the Gilman dinner rush. She’s a friendly smile when you walk in the door and the go-to staff member if you want an instant friend.

Junior Sydney Willis says that Becky has significantly enhanced her Gilman dining experience. “Every time I see Becky she always has a smile on her face,” Willis says. “She always goes out of her way to genuinely ask me how I am doing. I’m thankful to know her.”

Senior Lindsey Eckstein says she has developed a close relationship to Becky over the past few years. “Becky truly cares for all students,” Eckstein says.  “I can talk to her about anything, even if it is not dining related, and she listens and cares. I can always count on her to brighten my day.”

It’s that close relationship with the students that Becky values as well.

“They’re family in my book. That’s why I stayed, because Marietta College has the nicest student body by far!”

Whether Becky is greeting students at the door to Gilman, taking care of dining issues, or saying ‘hi’ while walking her Boston Terrier along Fifth Street, she is yet another example of why students at Marietta College think of the Parkhurst staff as extended family.
