On Friday, Nov.11, over one hundred students attended the Multicultural Fest held in Andrews Hall’s great room. In celebration of global awareness month, the event featured food, music, and dancing from countries across the globe.
“I absolutely loved the Multicultural Fest,” junior Rosey Raths told The Marcolian.
“It was such a great experience to see how much depth there is to culture, and how at home people feel in their foods and traditions.”
Students enjoyed food samples from China, Kuwait, Denmark, Russia, Ghana, Kenya, Norway, Mexico, Brazil, South America, Jamaica and India. Some even tried their hands at foreign dances.
“I learned a new Congolese dance, sort of,” Raths explained. “I also learned how to write my name in different languages – and that vanilla rice pudding is good when someone besides my mom makes it.”
Junior petroleum engineering major and Ghanaian international student, Baffour Paapa Nkrumah-Ababio, organized the event.
“When I first arrived at Marietta College I realized there were not many opportunities to bring together all the different cultures represented at the college,” he said.
Nkrumah-Ababio explained that, from his very first semester, he had dreamed of turning an event such as this into a reality. Nkrumah-Ababio said he was more than happy with the turnout, and that he cannot wait for next year’s edition.
“I hope people were educated on different cultures and learned how to engage people from other ethnicities,” he said. “Above all, I hope people had fun.”
